Digital fairness: what role for the practitioner?
The LIDC will be holding a webinar on Thursday 8 October 2026 at 13:00 to 14.00 pm (CET) / 12-1pm (UK).
Building on our research and practical experience about a series of topics that relate to fairness in AI and digital markets, such as addictive design, Agentic AI, dark patterns, FRAND terms, price personalization and the future-proofness of existing legal instruments, the seminar raises questions about the role practitioners could play and the roadblocks that they are facing in offering their services in the face of the widespread abuse of economic power in the digital environment.
SPEAKERS
Dr. Behrang Kianzad is the founder and director of the European Researcher Network on Fairness in Digital Markets and Artificial Intelligence (FIDMA).
Dr. Fabrizio Esposito is the co-founder of FIDMA, Associate Professor at the NOVA School of Law (Lisbon) and Visiting Fellow of the Centre for a Digital Society (EUI).
Their research (here and here) focuses primarily on the intersections of competition law with intellectual property, consumer law and digital markets law as well as the broader philosophical and law-and-economics approaches that inform both fields. Their research activity is complemented by direct regulatory and litigation experience as well as consultancy activities for national and supranational bodies.
The session will be moderated by Felipe Oquendo.
Felipe Oquendo Felipe Oquendo is a partner at Licks Attorneys based in Rio de Janeiro and serves as Deputy General Rapporteur in the LIDC. He has more than 16 years of experience in intellectual property litigation, advising clients on complex and high-stakes disputes involving patents, plant varieties, trademarks, industrial designs and unfair competition.
