MARSTRAND EXCURSION<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

About 45 km north of Gothenburg is a small town called Marstrand. The sailing town and seaside resort is located at the far end of the archipelago and is very popular during the summers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city has drawn people throughout the ages since it was founded in the 13th century by the Norwegian king H\u00e5kon H\u00e5konsson. With its perfect location out at sea, the city was for a long time a fishing port and the starting pont for international shipping. During the 16th century, Marstrand was also the center of herring fishing in Europe. At the peace of Roskilde in 1658, Marstrand became Swedish and then became an important trading place for Sweden. Because of this, part of the Swedish fleet was also stationed there, wich made king Karl X Gustav decide to buld a fortress on the island to protect the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1775, Marstrand received free port privileges, which meant a certain autonomy in relation to the rest of the country. Compared to the rest of Sweden, Marstrand had, among other things, freedom of religion, freedom from coercion, free immigration and also free from tax. The free port was created to attract labor from the rest of the world, which it did, but ended in 1794.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nowadays the city is best known as a seaside resort and sailing town but crowds of people still travel here to visit the fortress and hear about the town\u00b4s long history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will leave from Marstrand around 14:30 and there will be stop at Scandic G\u00f6tborg Central and G\u00f6teborg-Landvetter Airport<\/p>\n\n\n\n
